Congress Hotel Seepark

Was here for a couple of days and my stay was awesome. The best part about this location are many- beautiful views of Lake Thun, early morning view of sunshine over Swiss Alps and connectivity within the town. The staff is courteous and they really helped me with city maps and how to go about the town to visit touristy places. Received a bus pass from the hotel staff which took care of commute for 2 days. There is a bus stop hardly a minute away from the hotel and is definitely the best way to move around. All necessities are within close proximity and you can take a walk around Lake thun in the evenings. Breakfast spread is good too. Would definitely like to stay here again.

The lobby is chic and inviting. As a guest, you can help yourself to the coffee/tea machine on the ground floor free of charge, which we only found out by chance later when we explicitly asked a nice waitress.I think the hotel staff at the reception should inform guests directly and straightforwardly without asking, as early as possible -> at check-in. In general, there is still a lot of room for improvement as far as the transparent sharing of information is concerned, again I'm mostly thinking of the reception staff. They just could have been more forthcoming and supportive in regards to the use of the Panorama Card (free bus ticket and you can do sightseeing things at a discount) and sports activities. The standard double rooms are really small for the price tag... Also, the hotel is NOT air-conditioned in the bedrooms. This, I think is a major drawback. There's only a table fan, otherwise you have to open the window or the balcony door with the risk of insects or mosquitoes buzzing in. It would have been cool if the hotel had at least invested in fly screens and appropriate bedding. The down duvets are way too thick for summer. So keep that in mind as it may be too hot.The breakfast is humble. They have breads, croissants, jam, butter, cold meat, sausages, cheeses, fruits, eggs (scrambled, boiled), sometimes Swiss hash browns, cereals, porridge, stewed fruits, coffee machine and hot water for tea, instant cocoa and oat milk. The room cleaning could be more thorough. As a 4-star hotel, we thought they'd vacuum the floor, but unfortunately that didn't happen. Another thing I'd like to pinpoint was that it was really weird and kinky in a bad way that they installed a small glass window between the bedroom and bathroom. This means you're giving a peep show when taking a shower. If you're doing a romantic getaway: great! Otherwise - not so much.Hotel guests have free access to the wellness area with their room card. There is a whirlpool, herbal sauna (40-50°C), Finnish sauna (80-90°C), steam bath with eucalyptus scent and another mild sauna, which is supposed to be regenerating with music and between 40-50°C. There are also cold showers and waterfall showers (with a barrel overhead where you pull a chain) and a station with three drinking fountains (fruit-infused water) and nuts in the gender-separated rest areas. I found it very questionable and icky that guests are expected to make use of the whirlpool naked, as the wellness area is a complete nude zone. The shower stalls also don't allow for a lot of privacy. It should be noted that the Hotel Schloss Schadau shares the wellness area with the Seepark Congress. In the corridors of the rooms, near the lift, there is a plate with apples, which the hotel makes available to the guests. I found that a nice gesture. The Free Guest Wifi is from Swisscom. You only have to confirm the login, authentication is not necessary. The unencrypted connection is quite good with about 130 Mbps download, 36 Mbps upload, 8 ms latency unloaded, 112 ms latency loaded. So even though I criticized a lot, there was also plenty that was alright. Most of the staff were very friendly if not always helpful. Though the building looks completely unremarkably from the outside, the common rooms are nicely furbished. The view from the restaurant is sublime and it was a pleasant surprise having access to the coffee station without any additional costs. The apples they provided on the guest room floors while not terribly tasty were a nice gesture. As a hotel guest you can use their canoe (which is heavy, but still) for free to take a turn at the Lake Thun. Standup paddles and kayaks are provided for free as well, but I haven't seen them.

This hotel was my accommodation for Ironman Switzerland, so I’m going to write this review from the perspective of someone participating in the race. The location is good, about 400 meters from the finish line and maybe 600 meters from transition. There was a bus stop right outside the hotel which made access to Athlete Village very easy when I didn’t want to walk.I stayed in a junior suite, which was a good size to spread out all my gear, bike and bike box without my wife and myself feeling cramped. I don’t think we’d have been as comfortable in one of the regular rooms. The hotel is right on Lake Thun, which makes practice swims and just getting into the water to play very convenient.Bike pumps were available to use.Breakfast was served every morning starting at 7am, and 4am on race day. It was good with many options. The two dislikes I had were the refrigerator/minibar and the location. One of the main reasons I picked the hotel was access to an in room fridge. Unfortunately the fridge didn’t seem to get cold enough. Drinks were only semi cold and I was worried any food I put in it would spoil, make me sick, and ruin my race. I asked the staff about this and was told none of the minibars got very cold. Ultimately this wasn’t that big of an issue due to the good breakfast options, but I still would have liked to store some snacks. For the location, although 600 meters from transition doesn’t sound like a lot, it is when you’re lugging your bike and gear back after the race. Unlike other races I’ve done, Ironman Switzerland did not give you the option to have friends or family retrieve your gear. Each athlete had to do it themselves. The bottom line is this is a very good and comfortable hotel, with a very friendly staff. If I were to do the race again, I would consider staying here.
