My son was there from 2010 until 2015 and he loved all the staff members even outside of his group. He missed them even during vacation time! I particularly liked their flexibility around care hours and how easy it was to change plans because of work (business trips, etc.). I would recommend this day care to everybody.

Hello Everyone. My name is Sinéad. I am 18 years old from Ireland and I have just spent two months (July and August 2015) working as an English speaking pracktiant at Kita Littlefoot.I thoroughly enjoyed every moment and I was most surprised with the approach taken to childcare in Switzerland to that of my experience in Ireland. Firstly, Ireland tends not to take a multi-lingual approach to childcare:- facilities are usually specifically English or Irish speaking (Irish is the national language and I am a native speaker). Kita Littlefoot on the other hand is a German-speaking facility which also addresses the English language needs of the children/community.It was evident in Kita that a range of different skills were being developed, these included:- rhythm and music; activity; language; and social skills. During my time there, I experienced how quickly some children developed in the supporting and nurturing environment of Kita:-- When I arrived there was one child with no German or English and couldn’t communicate with staff or the other children. Within 2 months and on my departure, this child was communicating easily in both languages and was able to distinguish between English and German speakers and adjust accordingly to specific peoples’ language;- Another child who moved from the younger kids group (3mts – 30mts) in to the ‘big kids’ (30mts +) adjusted very quickly to the new environment with the support of staff. In Ireland, obviously, the weather is not as dry/ warm as it is in Switzerland and childcare facilities are not designed around ‘good weather’ environment. Children and activities are mainly indoors and the children do not have the same opportunity for outdoor, high-energy calming activities. Kita Littlefoot had a lot of space, both inside and outside, that allows for a wide variety of activities and movement of children. Kita has a big garden at the back of the facility which is frequently used for the children to play and also allowed for the interaction of both children groups. Within this garden there is also a mini-playground and there are two parks within walking distance of 5-10minutes which were used frequently while I was there. Switzerland is so children / activity orientated.During my time there also, I was surprised at the variety of other facilities, outside of the Kita, visited by the children, as this is unusual in Ireland. These included:- the ‘Lunch Boat’; the outdoor swimming pool at Église; the forest park Lange Erlen along the Wiese; and the rope ferry across the Rhine, but to name a few. These trips introduced that children to very practical social skills and cultural familiarisation of their own cultural / environment.I always felt that there is a safe and secure environment within the Kita at all times, focusing on the specific needs of children on an individual basis. Each day, a nutritious lunch is brought into Kita for the children and overall, it was clear from my experience, that the emphasis was on ‘the children come first, they are most important’. I believe that the children were also very aware of this as they danced eagerly into Kita every morning.I wish to express my gratitude to all of management, staff, parents and children for a very rewarding experience. Is mise, Sinéad, Irlande.
