Basler Pfalz

My first stop while in Basel. It’s so hot (35C), that it’s fun to see people jumping in to Rhine River and swimming! Excellent spot for viewing and dipping in the water! Love the sunset pictures from here as well

This is a great spot to get a view of Klein Basel and to watch the ferry cross, perfect for some touristy pictures or just to enjoy the view. It is right outside of the Münster with trees and benches that make a lunch break comfortable.

Amazing! This is a mandatory point during your city break. The view is beautiful. But the view is not the best part of it (this is my personal opinion). On the left side there are stairs to a ferry and toilet. If you go down it looks like a dead end but it's not. There is a narrow passage right above the river. Just go down and pass next to the ferry station. On the left side you will see another stairs. Go down, then through a small door and find yourself on a shelf. Turn right. If water is low you can go with this passage right to the Wettsteinbrücke. The passage is above the water so you won't get wet. Even if you fall into a water it's not very deep. I guess it's 50 cm deep. Maybe less. Please note this is a very narrow path and do not take little children with you, unless they understand how to be safe. It's also not a very good place for trolleys. Remember that safety should go first and enjoy the adventure :)

The Palatinate (Pfalz) viewing platform is a lovely place to stop with stunning views up and down the Rhine River. Elevated high above the water's edge, it provides a perfect vantage point for a relaxing rest on the wall seating.

Der Platz auf der Basler Pfalz bietet eine tolle Möglichkeit etwas zu entspannen und die Aussicht auf den Rhein zu genießen. Man erreicht ihn vom Basler Münster aus.

Nice terrace behind the church. Benches available for resting and great view of the river and bridge. A model of the Münster stands here for people with visual difficulties/disability.

Behind the Cathedral (Münster), there is a terrace offering wonderful views over the Rhine. Its name is the Pfalz and is one of the most popular viewpoints in the city.(If you are watching the river), on the left side there are steps that lead down to the landing jetty of the Münster ferry. On the other side (right) there is a small gateway leading to the quiet cloisters of the Cathedral.

You can visit a cute garden next to the cathedral which is really cute with some roses and beautiful windows and facades.The place is nice too with a great view of Basel but the best one I think. You can go downstairs and walk right by the water too (I recommend it).

Schöner Platz in der Basler Altstadt, hinter der Münsterkirche. Im Schatten von alten Kastanienbäumen geniesst man die Aussicht auf den Rhein und das Kleinbasel. Auf der linken Seite geht eine Treppe runter zu einer Fähre, die einen auf die andere Seite der Stadt bringt.
